Clear braces and clear aligners are both discreet, but which one is right for you?
Both clear braces and clear aligners offer a discreet way to straighten your teeth, but which option suits you best? We’ve put together a few key questions to help you decide.
How often can you visit the orthodontist?
Clear braces require more frequent in-person visits—typically every six weeks. These appointments involve adjustments such as changing wires, replacing rubber bands, attaching brackets, or tightening. You may also need occasional emergency visits if a wire starts poking your lips or gums.
If regular visits work for you, clear braces could be a great option. But if you prefer fewer appointments, clear aligners might be a better fit. At Urban Smile, our team monitor your progress remotely via an AI powered smartphone app meaning less in person visits are needed.
Do you want to keep eating your favourite foods?
With clear braces, you’ll need to avoid hard and sticky foods, as these can damage or dislodge the brackets. If you love crunchy snacks like apples or raw carrots, you’ll need to cut them into small pieces before eating.
On the other hand, clear aligners are removable, meaning you can still enjoy all your usual foods during treatment without restriction. If you’re dining out, simply remove your aligners either before entering the restaurant or perhaps popping to bathroom when you arrive. Just make sure you store them in their case to avoid losing them.
Regardless of which treatment you choose, we recommend avoiding foods high in sugar or acidity, as they can damage your teeth. Our goal is to create your Dream Smile, while keeping your teeth healthy!
Have you had braces before?
If you’ve had braces in the past, you might think they’re your only option for straightening your teeth again if they’ve shifted as you’ve gotten older. However, clear aligners offer a discreet, comfortable, and convenient alternative. Many adults who had braces as children or teens qualify for our Lite or Moderate treatment plans, which typically take less than 12 months—making it an excellent alternative to clear braces.
Do you mind if people notice your treatment?
Clear braces are made from ceramic and are designed to blend in with your natural teeth. However, because everyone’s tooth shade is different, the brackets can still be noticeable. They’re also slightly larger than traditional metal braces. If you’re looking for a more discreet option, clear aligners might be the way to go.
